I spent one week in Amsterdam in February, so my views are based on visiting during the winter which I would personally recommend. Strolling along the canals, all wrapped up is a romantic and unforgettable experience you will never forget! But remember your coat as it will be freezing along the canals. Also I would recommend purchasing an Amsterdam Card as the deals include free entry into main attractions, a boat ride along the canal and continuous use of the transport system to get around Amsterdam.
1. Coster Diamonds
Go to Coster Diamonds and learn all about how diamonds are made, while watching presentations showing diamonds being created in their various stages. Entrance into the store is free and all of the demonstrations are as well, you will also get a free guided tour of the store detailing the history of their diamonds and having a chance to try on some very precious pieces of jewellery yourselves.
2. Anne Frank’s house
Visit Anne Frank’s house – but be warned if you don’t book in advance there will be a long wait outside as the site is very small so only limited people are allowed in at one time. But the wait is worth it, you get to venture behind the bookcase and get a glimpse into Anne Frank’s last years. The visit is emotional but truly gives an insight into the history of the site and the individuals involved, whilst ultimately telling the story of Anne Frank through initially hiding and up until her untimely death.
3. The Red Light District
Whilst in Amsterdam a walk around the red light district is a must! The area helps you immerse yourself into the city and culture of Amsterdam. The sights along the canal are spectacular, and there are always numerous people sat along the canal enjoying the views and taking a moment to relax.

Go to the Amsterdam museum and learn the history of Amsterdam from the pre-historic period to modern day. The museum helps you get an insight into the way of life in the innovative city, which is unlike any in the world.
5. Bike Along The Canals
Take a bike ride along the canals to truly experience life as a local inhabitant of Amsterdam, also on a bike ride you would get to witness sights which would be inaccessible any other way. If biking is not your cup of tea, the city is accessible to walk around on foot to head to the main sights.
6. Take a Canal Cruise
By taking a canal cruise, you will get to experience Amsterdam and understand the history of how the city has been developed throughout time. The canal cruise which is included with the Amsterdam card, allows you to glimpse some of the spectacular 1,200 bridges of Amsterdam, but most importantly you get to witness the famous 15 bridges all at once.
7. Heineken brewery
Go to the Heineken brewery and take a tour it will be an experience to never forget. The brewery will take visitors through the whole process of making the product and even allowing visitors to have a chance at sampling beer throughout the tour. And the tour gives visitors the chance to experience being part of the beer process in a simulation which is a fun experience for everyone!
8. Our Lord in the Attic
Head to the famous Our Lord in the Attic church, the unique church shows the poor treatment of Catholics throughout history in Amsterdam, which led to the church being erected in secret in the attic of the building. The building boats beautiful views of the church inside and gives you some history on the persecuted Catholics of Amsterdam.
